The Chicago Jazz Mass is a communion liturgy for congregational singing. It can be accompanied by either a piano or other keyboard (for which one should also purchase the piano part) or a jazz ensemble consisting of trumpet, alto sax, tenor sax, and rhythm section (for which one should purchase the full score and instrumental parts, along with the congregation's part and the pano part). The piano part includes both chords and a completely notated piano part for those who do not routinely read chord changes. It also includes the vocal line and lyrics.

The Chicago Jazz Mass consists of a Kyrie, Gloria, Sanctus, Agnus Dei and Nunc Dimittis. The Kyrie has a part for cantor and responsive parts for the congregation. All other pieces are for congregational singing. The service was first celebrated on Ascension Day in 1986 at the Evangelical Church of St. Luke, 1500 West Belmont, Chicago Illinois, and since then has been used in hundreds of church services in many parts of the United States.
